چکیده

Using the pulse arrival times from pulsar observations made between 1.4 and 32 GHz, we constrain the location and size of the magnetospheric region which is responsible for the observed radio emission. We demonstrate that for long period pulsars themagnetic fieldmaintains its dipolar form throughout the whole emission region. The emission region itself is located very close to the stellar surface and confined to a small slab of a few tens stellar radii in height.

Simultaneous Single-Pulse Observations of Radio Pulsars: V. On the Broadband Nature of The Pulse Nulling Phenomenon in PSR

Aims. In this paper we revisit the well-known phenomenon of pulse nulling using high-quality single-pulse data of PSR B1133+16 from simultaneous multifrequency observations. Methods. Observations were made at 325, 610, 1400 and 4850 MHz as part of a joint program between the European Pulsar Network (EPN) and the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT). The pulse energy time series are analysed t...

Possible Evidence for the Pulsed X-ray Emission from Outer Gap in Psr

The fastest millisecond pulsar PSR B1937+21 presents an interpulse separated from the main pulse by nealy 180 at radio frequencies. Recently, the ASCA observations (Takahashi et al. 2001) detected pulsed X-ray emission from this pulsar. Only a single narrow X-ray pulse is observed, which is coincident with the radio interpulse in phase. We investigate the possible origin of the pulsed X-rays fr...

Origin of the Transient Unpulsed Radio Emission from the Psr B1259−63 Binary System

We discuss the interpretation of transient, unpulsed radio emission detected from the unique pulsar/Be-star binary system PSR B1259−63. Extensive monitoring of the 1994 and 1997 periastron passages has shown that the source flares over a 100-day interval around periastron, varying on time-scales as short as a day and peaking at 60 mJy (∼ 100 times the apastron flux density) at 1.4 GHz. Interpre...

ASTRONOMY AND ASTROPHYSICS Simultaneous single-pulse observations of radio pulsars II. Orthogonal polarization modes in PSR B1133+16

In this paper, we present a study of orthogonal polarization modes in the radio emission of PSR B1133+16, conducted within the frame of simultaneous, multi-frequency, single-pulse observations. Simultaneously observing at two frequencies (1.41 GHz and 4.85 GHz) provides the means to study the bandwidth of polarization features such as the polarization position angle. We find two main results. F...

Radio Emission Signatures in the Crab Pulsar

Our high time resolution observations of individual pulses from the Crab pulsar show that both the time and frequency signatures of the interpulse are distinctly different from those of the main pulse. Main pulses can occasionally be resolved into short-lived, relatively narrow-band nanoshots. We believe these nanoshots are produced by soliton collapse in strong plasma turbulence. Interpulses a...
